Welcome to the Year of the Dragon—
February and March are certainly busy and exciting months! The children have continued to developed their speaking and writing skills, and are now ready to put them to good use. Here are a few of the many activities we’ve been immersed in this term:
- Learning the tools for reading and writing poetry. Each child completed writing a collection of poems and will share one with parents and visitors at the Poetry Cafe on the 29th of February.
- Learning to consider both points of view for a debate. Each child was teamed with a classmate to take either the affirmative or negative side of a topic. One team will present their debate at the Poetry Cafe.
- Learning to retell events in sequence. Each child wrote an essay, recounting their visit to Sungei Buloh, a nature reserve teaming with life.
- Learning to produce a newspaper. Each student took a role in creating a class newspaper to be shared at the Newspaper Tea Party the end of February. Invitations have been sent for the Newspaper Tea Party/ Poetry Cafe, on the 29th of February. We hope you all can come!
- Learning to work together to produce a quality product. The children worked cooperatively to plan, design and paint stepping stools for the County Fair.
- Learning to add meaningful comments during Book Club discussions. Sounding like adults, the students are involved in daily Book Club discussions that are digging for “deeper” meaning.
Please enjoy the photos for Quarter 3 and you will see evidence of the activities mentioned above.
We’d also like to welcome Harriet Gray to our classroom! Harriet comes to us from Melbourne, Australia and has quickly settled into Grade 4 life.
This is only the third term so we have many adventures ahead of us!
Warm Regards,
Jenny Redlin
